Director
Gareth Kloet
Energy expert
Gareth has been involved in utilities since working for Welsh Water in 1994, then in the energy market since it’s deregulation in 1996 for gas and 1998 for electricity. He’s worked for both new businesses and established energy companies, including Atlantic, Energylinx and now GoCompare, in his current role as our energy expert and Director of Partnerships.
He has been quoted on the state of the energy market in publications such as Express.co.uk and This is Money. Gareth has previously worked for leading insurance and comparison brands, making him our go-to for any energy and comparison know-how.
How did you get into insurance and financial services? What experience do you have?
My first move into insurance came in 2007 when I took up a position at Confused.com (which was owned by Admiral) where I worked as 'Head of motor' amongst other roles during my time there. I was at Confused for about 7 years in a variety of different management positions. After Confused, I took a role in Admiral as their 'Customer Retention Manager' which gave me significant insight into the operational side of the business as well as the ability to really influence change on a significant scale.
How do you keep up to date with the industry?
I meet with partners regularly and have always had a very keen interest in both insurance and the energy market. It's always been fascinating for me and I enjoy asking questions, analysing data and reading up on market developments. On energy in particular, I am a bit of a geek.
Do you have any special awards, qualifications or memberships?
Academically, I have a degree in Business, an MBA and a couple of diplomas in Management and Marketing. My MBA is my highest qualification.
What's your best money-saving tip?
My 2 tops tips:
- Use a Price comparison site!
- Opt for the low energy version or turn it off!
Gareth says:
The energy market can change quickly and unexpectedly, but customers should always know where they stand with their gas and electricity. As a proper energy geek, I want to help with that.
