No. Only customers who bought their home insurance before 30 April 2025 are eligible for the free £250 excess cover offer.

  • Did I have to buy home insurance before a certain date?
    Yes. Our free £250 excess cover offer ended on 30 April 2025. To get free home excess cover, you must have bought your home insurance policy before 30 April 2025.

  • How much free excess cover will I have?
    If you bought your home insurance through Go.Compare before 30 April 2025 and opted into our free home excess protection, you have up to £250 in excess cover.
    For example:

    • If your total excess is £300, you'd pay the £300 to your insurer, then claim back £250 from us.
    • If your excess is only £50, you could make up to five separate claims.

  • Why can I not claim for accidental loss or damage?
    Our free home excess cover is there for totally unexpected claims - for example, if a tree falling damages your building or your possessions are stolen as we believe that's where it will be the most helpful.

  • Will my home insurance premiums go up if I make a claim on my home excess cover policy?
    Your premiums will not go up because you’ve claimed on your home excess cover. But they probably will increase in the future because you’ve made a claim on your home insurance.

  • What happens if I cancel my home insurance?
    If you cancel your home insurance within the first 14 days, we’ll cancel your home excess cover too.

  • How do I cancel my free home excess cover?
    If you do not want free home excess cover anymore, you can cancel your policy through the management portal.

  • Will my home excess cover renew next year?
    Free excess cover for customers who bought home insurance through Go.Compare ended on 30 April 2025. If you already have this free cover, it will last for the duration of your current home insurance policy. Free excess cover will no longer be offered to customers who buy home insurance through Go.Compare after 30 April 2025.

  • Can I claim on my car excess cover for a home insurance claim?
    No - your car insurance excess cover does not cover home insurance claims and vice versa.

  • How do I update/change the details on my free home excess cover?
    You can update your details through the home excess cover management portal.

  • Who provides the cover?
    Home excess cover is provided by GoCompare and arranged by Coplus. The policy is underwritten by Astrenska Insurance Limited. You can check this on the FCA website by visiting FCA register.

    Whilst Go.Compare no longer offers free excess cover to home insurance customers, some insurers on our panel may offer home excess cover to customers with a home insurance policy.

  • Am I still eligible to claim on my excess protection policy even though the offer has ended?
    Yes, if you had an excess protection policy in place before the offer ended on April 30th 2025, you can still make a claim. Claims can be submitted through the claim management portal. You have up to 6 months after your home insurance claim has been settled by your insurer to submit a claim for your excess protection policy.

  • Is the offer of free excess protection policy coming back?
    Free excess cover is available when you purchase car insurance through Go.Compare. Be sure to stay updated by checking our website or following our social media channels.
